“Does Job Serve God for Nothing, pt 2”
Job just might represents the best fallen humanity has to offer. He persists with his faith. He proves something to us. Our faith can only be genuine if it is selfless.
He continues to worship God when all earthly blessings for doing so has been taken away.
Could you worship God if you felt He was your enemy, personally causing you to suffer for reasons not revealed to you? Job can, and does:
Job 6:4 For the arrows of the Almighty are in me;my spirit drinks their poison; the terrors of God are arrayed against me.
“In a sense Job must replay the original test of the garden of Eden, with the bar raised higher. Living in paradise, Adam and Eve faced the best-case scenario for trusting God, who asked so little of them and showered down blessings. In a living hell, Job faces the worst-case scenario: God asks so much, while curses rain down on him.”
