1Sam. 1:20 It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of the LORD.”
Samuel’s name in Hebrew according to a lexicon – Samuel; Shemuel, “his name is God [El]; heard of God; the unnamed god is El”. I like “heard of God.” When you read and study the Hebrew scriptures (the “Old” Testament) you need some principles to build your conclusions on. Today we establish a few of those to help us with this series on 1st & 2nd Samuel.
